GODERICH, Ont. - Most people can turn on the lights again in Goderich, Ont., and by Wednesday most residents should be able to take a warm shower.

Mayor Deb Shewfelt says electricity has been restored to just about all functioning buildings after a tornado hit the community on Lake Huron on Aug. 21.

And Union Gas has indicated most homes will have their service back Wednesday.

Shewfelt says a state of emergency remains in place but that could change Wednesday after officials meet to discuss the situation.

Officials will discuss reopening portions of the downtown core, with one or two businesses opening again.

Shewfelt says it depends on how much progress has been made cleaning up the core area.
