A group fight shut down Fairway Road and has left one man seriously hurt. Now police are on the hunt for three suspects.
The melee happened at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday and closed the intersection of Fairway Road and Morgan Avenue around 4 a.m. Police are not saying how a Waterloo man became seriously injured, but the victim's uncle believes a weapon was involved.
“My nephews were caught up with some people here and they got home. Then my cousins came out running afterwards, and got caught into a little scuffle,” says Jerry Mangru who lives nearby.
He says when one of his nephews returned to his garage, he collapsed and was badly hurt from a stab wound.
“He's in ICU, they're taking good care of him. He has a punctured lung,” Mangru said.
Police say they searched the area and are looking for three suspects who are all in their early twenties.
One is described as a Middle Eastern man, 5’9”, with a thin build, goatee, ear piercings and had a thick accent.
The second suspect is a black male, 5’8” or 5’9”, with a thin build. He had a moustache and a chin strap beard.
The third suspect is either a black or southern European man, 5’8”, with an average build.
Police are not saying if the two groups were known to each other, but Mangru says his nephew was on his way to grab a pizza when the fight happened and did not know the other group.
Desiree Gary lives close to the corner. She woke up early to get her garage sale ready but was shocked to see police activity.
“The forensics van was right out there so it was a little alarming. When I looked out I saw that they were over here in the bushes, gathering what I assume (was) evidence. I heard ‘bag and tag’ a couple of times which kind of alarmed me,” Gary said.
Two other waterloo men sustained minor injuries during the fight, which lasted for several minutes. Anyone with information is being asked to call police.
