The sentencing of a former teacher at a Cambridge school who had sex with one of her students has been postponed for three months.
Lavigne was convicted of sexual exploitation in April.
Court heard testimony that while working at Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School, she had sex with a then-17-year-old student.
Following the conviction, Lavigne – who did not testify in her own defence – was fired by the Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
Sentencing was initially scheduled for Friday.
On Thursday, Lavigne’s lawyer argued in favour of delaying the sentencing until a psychiatric assessment could be completed on the 33-year-old – which, he said, would give the judge a better understanding of Lavigne’s personal history.
Justice Patrick Flynn agreed to the request, pushing the sentencing date back to Sept. 26.
