After a slow start to 2014, Kitchener-Waterloo’s real estate market picked up upon the arrival of warmer weather.

According to the KW Association of Realtors, home sales were up 9.2 per cent in August as compared to the same month in 2013.

The average price of a home sold in the market also rose by 3.9 per cent, buoyed significantly by jumps in the prices of detached homes sold.

Real estate agent Steve Dawkins chalks many of the bright spots up to people from the Greater Toronto Area finding bargains a little bit to the west.

“They’re finding that you simply can have a much better quality of life out here,” he told CTV News.

“If you’re looking for a neighbourhood with mature trees, you can actually find them.”

Across Canada, real estate sales were up 2.1 per cent in August, with the average sale price up 5.3 per cent from 2013 levels.
