A jury has been selected, but the trial of David Thomas for second-degree murder won’t officially get underway until later this month.
Pretrial submissions are expected to take up the rest of this week, with the trial likely beginning either Jan. 21 or Jan. 27.
Thomas has pleaded not guilty in connection with the death of Denise Bourdeau in 2007.
Bourdeau, 39, disappeared following a New Year’s party at a Waterloo restaurant.
Her body was found nearly four months later on the banks of the Grand River in the Old Mill area of south Kitchener.
The circumstances of her death have never been released,
Thomas, 51, wasn’t arrested in connection with the case until 2011, four years after Bourdeau’s body was found.
Jury selection began Monday afternoon at a Kitchener courthouse and wrapped up Tuesday.
The trial is expected to last for several weeks.
