Firefighters in Norwich, south of Woodstock, spent much of Wednesday morning battling flames at a home on Main Street.

The fire was reported shortly before 1 a.m.

The two people living in the home were inside at the time, and were able to get out under their own power, unhurt.

An exact damage estimate was not immediately available.

“It’s not livable right now,” said neighbour Jack Vandelinde.

“They’re pretty devastated.”

Vandelinde said the couple had spent at least 10 years living in the home, and lost two of their four kids to the fire.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Oxford County OPP say they do not consider it suspicious.

Main Street was closed for several hours due to the fire.
