A school administrator is charged with voyeurism after a hidden camera was allegedly discovered in the staff washroom of a school in Brantford.

Brantford Police say they learned of the camera Wednesday, after being notified of its presence by staff at James Hillier Public School on Queensway Drive.

“An employee … heard a noise coming from the ceiling tile,” said Const. Natalie Laing.

“When he removed the ceiling tile, (he) discovered that there was a hidden camera there.”

Police say there was a small hole in the ceiling tile below the camera, which they say contained at least one image of an adult.

“We have seized the camera, and now our detectives are seeking a warrant (to) give us access to the camera,” Laing said.

“We strongly believe that there will be more images.”

Brent Hachborn, a 33-year-old Brantford man, has been arrested in connection with the discovery. He remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon, with a bail hearing expected to take place Friday.

Officials with the Grand Erie District School Board say Hachborn did not work at James Hillier, but was a vice-principal at St. George German Public School and also worked at Burford Public School, and has been suspended from those duties with pay.

“We’re unable to comment a lot at this time, because it is a situation that is under investigation by the police and we are co-operating fully with them,” school board superintendent Liana Thompson told CTV News.

“We’re working very hard to support staff members in any situations of distress that they may have.”

Thompson said that the board has no reason to believe student safety was compromised.
