Five people were taken to hospital following a collision south of Kitchener late Monday afternoon.

Waterloo Regional Police say they were called to New Dundee Road in North Dumfries, near Cameron Side Road, at 5:25 p.m. in response to the collision.

According to police, the driver of a westbound pickup truck lost control and ended up in the eastbound lane of the road, where his vehicle collided with an SUV.

Both vehicles were destroyed.

The driver of the first vehicle and the four people in the second vehicle, two of whom were children, were all taken to hospital.

None of them are believed to have life-threatening injuries.

Police say speed and road conditions are factors which contributed to the collision, and charges are pending.
