The last meals were served, the grill shut down, at Harmony Lunch after 86 years.
An iconic lunch spot in Waterloo put its open sign up for the very last time on Saturday.
The long-time family owned diner has been bought by a private developer.
Many waited in line for up to an hour to have one more sandwich.
“It’s an institution you’re going to stand in line for. This I’ll wait all day if I had to,” said Dean Clarke, a long-time customer.
“The best burger ever,” said James Bartlet.
Lynn Edwards and Lana Faessler have been eating at the lunch spot for more than 60 years.
“I don’t want it to close,” said Edwards, citing it was like losing a family member.
First opened in 1930, owner Bruce Mark would not step away from the grill, wanting to make sure his loyal customers received the best cooked burgers.
“We've had a lot of people coming in, a lot to people sending well wishes, a lot of people sharing their memories. It’s been a really nice experience for the family to have the community support,” said Mark.
“The best burgers I had here. They're always the best, but today they were extra good,” said Jake Rohrbacher.
