As part of Guelph’s water conservation efforts, the city is offering a program that educates home owners how to have efficient lawns and gardens.
The Healthy Landscapes Program was designed to help conserve Guelph’s groundwater.
On the city’s website there are a number of educational resources and information packages about the program are handed out at various events.
“But the key component to of the program is the Healthy Landscapes visits,” said Karen McKeown who works with the city's water services.
“We’ll come to your property, on site and do a landscape visit.”
The visits last around 45 minutes from a city advisor and are free of charge.
“We’ll give you great tips on how to save water, how to plant the right plants in the right spot, how to plant trees properly and how trees are very beneficial to homeowners properties,” said McKeown .
McKeown says that the program is very effective with regards to water conservation but there are other benefits in maintaining your property with the help of proffesional guidancance.
“The advisors are trained on the different conditions in Guelph, “ said McKeown.
“Guelph is very varied in its soil conditions and even its weather. We have different weather patterns from the south end to the north end.”
