A Guelph Transit bus driver has been charged with dangerous driving and dangerous driving causing bodily harm following a five-vehicle crash.
“It’s gone above the Highway Traffic Act here, we’re talking criminal charges,” says Const. Mike Gatto.
The crash occurred Oct. 18 on Gordon Street near Arkell Road.
The bus was heading southbound on Gordon when it crossed the centre line and crashed into another vehicle, sparking a larger crash.
The driver of the first vehicle hit was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Guelph Police began investigating the crash at the time, and announced the charges Wednesday.
“We have been co-operating with the police to make sure that they have all the information that they require,” says Derek McCaughan, the city’s executive director of transit operations.
“This is being taken very seriously.”
The 51-year-old male bus driver will appear in court Dec. 3.
He has been reassigned to other duties within Guelph Transit, including cleaning buses.
