Cleanup continues at many parks and trails across the Grand River watershed, but three Grand River Conservation Authority properties are once again open to the public.
As of last weekend, all GRCA parks were closed due to downed trees and other damage from December’s ice storm.
Officials estimated that thousands of trees were down across the watershed, particularly in its northern areas.
Friday, the GRCA announced that parks at Shade’s Mills, Belwood Lake and Laurel Creek have been opened to the public.
“Storm-damaged trees have been cleaned up, ice is strong enough to support anglers and there’s enough snow on the ground to support skiing and snowshoeing,” the agency said in a press release.
Cross-country skiers and snowshoers are welcome at Laurel Creek, while Belwood Lake is fit for ice fishing.
All of the above activities are on offer at Shade’s Mills.
Most other GRCA parks, trails and natural areas remain closed as cleanup efforts continue.
