Construction and traffic delays have been a constant on King Street near the Kitchener/Waterloo border this spring – but for part of Thursday afternoon, the road was shut down entirely.
Construction crews working on King in front of Grand River Hospital ruptured a gas line around 2:30 p.m.
The hospital put an emergency protocol in place, diverting some patients from its emergency department.
Any patients in need of immediate care were still admitted, a hospital spokesperson said.
Across the street, the CTV Kitchener building was evacuated.
After about an hour, crews were able to stop the leak and begin repair work.
