A former professor at the University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture appeared in a Kitchener court Monday on fraud charges.

Jeffrey Lederer faces charges of theft over $5,000, fraud and forging a document.

Previously the general manager of the Cambridge-based architectural school, Lederer won an award for excellence in education from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation in 2010.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he held the general manager position until 2011.

He later left the school, although it’s not clear if that had anything to do with the criminal allegations against him, and was charged in 2013.

A preliminary hearing into Lederer’s case began Monday, seeking to determine if there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial.
