A former school teacher who lives in Kitchener has been charged with several sex-related offenses related to children.

Geoffrey Burnet, 48, is facing charges of sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching. The charges were laid by Hamilton police after a four-month investigation.

Police say Burnet used to work for the Upper Grand District School Board, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, and the Toronto District School Board.

The UGDSB confirmed Burnet was employed there between 2011 and 2013, but is no longer an employee.

Police began looking into child sexual abuse allegations in May. That case developed into an online child exploitation investigation, which in turn led to a review of a child sexual assault investigation in Hamilton that occurred between 2007 and 2008.

Burnet was arrested and charged Tuesday. He was released after a bail hearing on Wednesday.

Police have not said whether any of the victims were students, but do say there may be more victims who have yet to come forward.
