HANOVER, Ont. -- Police, the Coroner's Office and the Ministry of Labour are all investigating the tragic death of a man who was training to become a firefighter.
Police say 30-year old Adam Brunt of Bowmanville died yesterday after he became trapped under the ice of the Saugeen River in Hanover.
Brunt was enrolled in the firefighting program at Durham College and police say he'd been taking part in a training exercise for ice and water rescue certification.
The exercise was being conducted by a private firm from Newmarket -- there were 11 other students present, and an instructor.
Police say Brunt got caught in a strong current under the ice and remained submerged for about 15 minutes before he was finally pulled out.
He was rushed to hospital, but didn't survive.
A post mortem is scheduled to be done today in London.
