After escaping a house fire east of Woodstock, two men were taken to hospital.

Flames broke out late Thursday afternoon at the home, on Township Road 4 in Blandford-Blenheim.

The residence was completely destroyed by the fire – which, due to its proximity to Highway 401, also caused traffic delays.

“We did have a bit of an issue there, with people slowing down because they saw the smoke,” Oxford County OPP Const. Stacey Culbert told CTV News.

According to police, the fire is believed to have started accidentally.

“As this point, (we don’t) believe that there’s anything suspicious,” Culbert said.

The two men taken to hospital were released later in the day.
