OPP confirm at 11 people are dead and three were sent to hospital following a two-vehicle crash in Perth County, northeast of Stratford, on Monday afternoon.

OPP Traffic and Marine Insp. Steve Porter says "I've been on the job for 28 years and I've never seen anything like this."

A flatbed truck and an extended 15-passenger van collided around 4:50 p.m. on Monday on Perth Road 107 at Line 47 in Hampstead.

The weather and roads were clear at the time of the crash.

The collision tore the side off the passenger van and sent it into the side of a house just south of the intersection. The impact flipped the truck onto its side.

Witnesses say the truck was southbound when it broadsided the white passenger van, which was westbound at the time of the crash.

Residents say there are stop signs for eastbound and westbound traffic at the intersection.

There were believed to be 13 people in the van when it was struck, possibly a group of agricultural workers.

At a press conference late Monday Porter told the media "The people in the van are migrant worker to the best of our knowledge at this point."

OPP say three people survived the crash and were taken to hospital, two to Stratford General and one to Hamilton by air ambulance.

The driver of the truck is among those killed in the crash along with ten people in the van, including the driver of that vehicle.

OPP investigators are still trying to determine where the people who survived were seated in the van, but say the fire department did cut a number of seatbelts to get people out of the wreckage.

The company that operates the truck has told the media they are not releasing the name of the driver until next of kin has been notified.

There are reports that the van was carrying workers from Brian's Poultry Service, which is based in Mildmay, Ont.

OPP continue to investigate and Perth Road 107 from Line 45 to Line 56, north of Amulree, was closed for the investigation until 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
