More than 36 hours after a shooting and multiple stabbings at a Cambridge townhouse, the two civilians involved in the incident remain in hospital.
The third person injured, a Waterloo Regional Police officer, was released from hospital Friday.
Police and Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit continue to investigate the incident, which was the second police-involved shooting in Waterloo Region in the month of April.
Officers responded to the Morning Calm Drive townhouse complex shortly after midnight Thursday, for a report of a domestic dispute.
They had been there Wednesday afternoon for the same reason.
According to investigators, a police officer was stabbed by a man at the scene, and responded by shooting him.
A woman was found inside the townhouse with multiple stab wounds.
Both the man and the woman were taken to a Hamilton hospital for surgery. Both are expected to survive.
Friday was a quieter day on Morning Calm, although investigators were seen going door-to-door in the neighbourhood, asking residents what they had noticed.
One of the doors they knocked on was that of Fernando Londono, who said he hoped the incident would lead to his neighbours coming closer together.
“We hope that Morning Calm continues (to have) peace and calm,” he said.
Police have set up a command post in the neighbourhood. They say they want to hear from anyone with information that may be relevant to their investigation.
Charges will likely be laid, Waterloo Regional Police Staff Sgt. Mike Haffner said.
