Edible art was on display an annual charity cake competition, and with more than 70 entered to compete, the judges had a hard time choosing a winner.

Entries came from all over Ontario, as well as the USA, competitors vying for a share of the $25,000 in prizes.

Competitors took inspiration from a variety of places, whether that was recreating scenes from Disney movies to recreating the looks of high fashion dresses.

All the proceeds from the event will be going to Icing Smiles Canada, a charity that creates cakes for children with terminal illnesses.

“It's really rewarding. And to see the photos come in, and the families that are so thankful that we do this for them, it makes you feel good,” said Kellie Barclay, one of the competitors.

Chrissie Boon, the event organizer says the charity has 1500 bakers across Canada that volunteer to create the dream cakes, she has had the chance to do it nine times.

“They’re so happy they’re so excited and it’s that one thing that maybe, everything else in their life is kind of going the wrong way, and that’s the one bright moment in their life,” she said.

Boon says that the cakes take weeks of planning and sometimes upwards of 60 hours of building and baking.

More than 250 people came to see the cakes and vote for their favourite one.
