Campbell's Soup has a new line of nutrient-dense soups, but consumers won't be able to find it on their grocery store shelf.

The company introduced "Nourish" at the Universities Fighting World Hunger Summit in Guelph Saturday. Participants at the summit learned how difficult it is to get a complete meal in many impoverished countries. But also here in Canada.

According to Food Banks Canada, almost 900,000 people visit a food bank each month.

"A lot of food bank clients might only have a hot plate in their apartment or shelter, so being able to give out a full meal is a really impressive feat," says David Kranenburg, the Executive Director at Meal Exchange.

In an effort to make sure everyone has access to a nutrient-rich meal, Campbell's developed Nourish, which has more iron, protein and zinc than other soups on the market. According to Philip Donne, President of Campbell's Soup, it's a complete meal in a can. "Nourish is a ready to serve meal that combines vegetables, grains and legumes."

Nourish will be sent to Food Banks in Canada and shipped to international humanitarian agencies.

The company says it developed the product after an internal survey revealed that employees wanted Campbell's to be more socially conscious.
