BlackBerry’s three company planes will be sold, CTV News has learned.
The company bought a used Bombardier aircraft in July as part of a plan to replace two older Dassault planes, but now all three jets are up for sale.
“In light of the company’s current business condition, the company has decided to sell that aircraft along with the two legacy aircraft and will no longer own any planes,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
The company did not say how soon it hopes to be rid of the jets, which were based out of a hangar at the Region of Waterloo International Airport, but they evidently remain in use – CTV News saw one plane land at the hangar Tuesday evening.
It is not known how much the Bombardier jet cost the company, but similar planes sell for between $25 million and $29 million.
The decision to sell the jets comes less than two weeks after the company announced another restructuring effort which will see it shed 4,500 jobs.
Fairfax Financial Holdings has offered to buy the company for $4.7 billion, although analysts speculate a final purchase price could be significantly lower.
