A fundraising campaign for the victims of last week’s fire at Classy Lane Stables has nearly raised half of its goal.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Gofundme campaign had raised more than $230,000 of the $500,000 it set out to.

According to an organizer of the fundraising effort, the campaign has been one of the five most successful Canadian fundraisers on the website in recent days.

That news came on the same day people were expected to gather at the Puslinch farm for a vigil honouring the 43 racehorses that were killed in the fire.

From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., people were invited to bring battery-operated candles, flashlights, or other memorial items to the stable. Attendees were told not to bring any actual flames.

According to the fundraiser page, money raised through the campaign will be pooled together and distributed to everyone directly affected by the fire.

Officials continue to investigate the fire, which destroyed one of the stables at Classy Lane but did not spread to other buildings on the property.
