OPP have found what they believe to be human remains just west of Goderich, near Seaforth, following a ground search connected to a missing person investigation.

The crime unit and forensic investigators were called to the scene near Highway 8 and Roxboro Line on Wednesday.

Police acknowledged Thursday that the remains were found during the search for a missing Waterloo teenager.

The ground search began a few weeks ago northwest of town, when officers began looking for 17-year-old Brendan Dixon, who disappeared in August.

Dixon was last seen at a Seaforth home on August 20, when he told family he was hitchhiking to Waterloo, 90 kilometres east, to visit friends.

The body was found in the opposite direction, 15 minutes from where Dixon started walking. He was carrying a cell phone, but police won't say whether they were able to triangulate its location.

The property where the body was found belongs to farmer Bob Argyle, who says it's thick and remote, an unlikely place for someone to wander.

But he adds, "There's cornfields all the way around here, and you could get lost in any one of them."

OPP Const. Kees Wijnands says "We're hoping within the next couple of days that the autopsy will be done, and we will find out the identity of the remains."

There were reportedly no tips involved in the discovery of the body.
