Commuters heading from Waterloo Region to Toronto are about to feel the squeeze.

The ramp from Highway 8 to Highway 401 eastbound will close completely at 10 p.m. Monday.

It’ll reopen in time for the morning rush – but that’s not the end to headaches for drivers, as one of the ramp’s two lanes will remain closed until October.

It’s all part of the project to widen Highway 401 to 10 lanes through Cambridge.

Speedsville Road remains closed near the 401 due to the same project, while lane closures will also be in effect on the 401 between Highway 8 and Highway 204 from Monday night until Saturday morning.

Other significant road closures and construction affecting Waterloo Region this week include:

  • Bridge Street remains closed to westbound traffic on Bridge Street between the Kitchener/Woolwich boundary and Stanley Avenue, with reopening planned in October
  • Lane closures on University Avenue between Weber Street and Lincoln Road will continue until mid-November
  • Daytime lane closures on Weber Street between College and Union streets as reconstruction of Weber moves ahead
  • Lane closures on Westmount Road between Ottawa Street and Gilmore Crescent
