A few weeks after elementary school students in Waterloo Region were suspended over incomplete vaccination records, thousands of high school students are now facing the same fate.

Region of Waterloo Public Health said Tuesday that 3,046 high school students could be suspended May 11 if up-to-date records are not provided.

Suspension orders for the students are expected to be delivered later this week. Once in effect, the suspensions could last for up to 20 days if records are not provided.

The public health agency is responsible for collecting and maintaining accurate immunization records of all students under the age of 18.

The 3,046 students still at risk of suspension represent about one-third of the number notified of incomplete records earlier in the school year.
