$1 million in provincial funding for Elmira’s Toyota Boshoku Canada plant was announced Monday.

The company, which designs and produces items like seats and door trim for vehicles produced at Toyota’s plants in Cambridge and Woodstock, says it will use the funding to help create 73 new positions, as well as purchase new equipment.

“Today’s announcement … highlights our commitment to invest with our manufacturing sector to increase competitiveness, attract significant private sector investments, and generate economic growth,” Brad Duguid, the province’s minister of economic development, employment and infrastructure, said in a press release.

The funding is a one-time grant provided through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
