Holiday season RIDE programs in Wellington County have stopped nearly 8,000 drivers, and OPP say they’re not thrilled by the results.
“We are seeing these somewhat discouraging results where one in every 16 vehicles stopped, the drivers have consumed some level of alcohol,” Insp. Scott Lawson said in a Tuesday media release.
In total, Wellington County OPP have stopped 7,895 vehicles.
Nearly 400 of those vehicles contained drivers who, police say, had consumed a legal amount of alcohol.
Sixty drivers have been handed three-day licence suspensions, while four drives have had their licences suspended for one week.
Twenty-three drivers have been charged with impaired driving.
OPP have also issued 129 charges under the Highway Traffic Act, 40 related to drugs, 25 under the Liquor License Act, 18 under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and 15 criminal charges.
RIDE programs in Wellington County began in November and run until Jan. 11.
