What was meant to be a relaxing boat ride turned into a horrific sight.

A woman is recovering in hospital with serious burns after her boat caught fire and exploded in Turkey Point on Friday night.

Investigators say the woman and a man were fuelling up for a boat ride at the Turkey Point Marina when their boat went up in flames.

The man was treated on scene. The woman was airlifted to hospital.

Ed Thompson, General Manager at Turkey Point Marina says he jumped on a boat to help as soon as he got the call. “The service was done and the boat had been fuelled and actually left our dock and something caused an explosion,” he said in an interview.

What happened between refuelling and that explosion is what investigators are trying to figure out.

“We’re going to put the pieces together and we’re going to use the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshal to assist with our investigation,” says Edward Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.
