Police are once again searching a five-kilometre radius in Whitby as they look for missing teacher and Kitchener native Jeffrey Boucher.

Boucher, 52, disappeared from his home Monday morning and didn’t show up for work that day at Bowmanville High School.

Nobody saw him leave the house, but family members believe he would have gone for his typical 6 a.m. run.

An intensive police search of the area began Tuesday, with officials initially theorizing that he either was hit by a car or fell into a ditch.

As the week continued, police expanded their search to include a lakefront area where Boucher was known to enjoy jogging.

That expanded search continues.

“At this time, there’s really no new developments,” Insp. Nick Lisi of Durham Regional Police told reporters Saturday morning.

“We are still actively investigating this missing person’s report. Our investigators have determined that we need to keep this up.”

Lisi says there has been no sign, electronic or otherwise, of activity or communication from Boucher since his appearance.

In addition to the “complex geographical area” around Boucher’s Whitby home, Lisi says, investigators have likely searched around his Blue Mountain-area family chalet.

Police have said they’re considering a variety of scenarios for Boucher’s disappearance, including the possibility that he felt the need to “step away”, but do not suspect foul play.

Boucher is described as a white man, six feet tall and 180 pounds with short, grey and white hair.

He was born and raised in Kitchener, attended the University of Waterloo and was previously a ski instructor at Chicopee Ski Hill.
