The minister accused of sending explicit text messages to a Brantford teen made a brief court appearance Tuesday.

Rev. Dr. Barry Pridham was remanded into custody, with his next court date set for Thursday.

Pridham, 64, was arrested over the weekend and faces charges of sexual exploitation, luring a child and possession of child pornography.

Police allege he convinced a 17-year-old attendee of his church to send him nude photos of herself.

Computer equipment was seized from both his home and his office at Sydenham Street United Church, and is in the process of being examined.

In a statement, United Church of Canada officials said they are “co-operating fully with the police investigation,” which they learned about Sunday.

“The United Church will seek to provide all those involved in this situation with pastoral care and spiritual support as they journey through this difficult time,” said Rev. Alan Hall.

Brantford Police say they want to hear from anyone who had contact with Pridham, or whose children may have had contact with him.

“Ask them if there has been any inappropriate texting, any emails that might have taken place,” said Const. Natalie Laing.

“At this point, we haven’t heard from any other persons that might have been victimized, however we’re not ruling out the fact that there may have been other victims.”
