A Mississauga man who shot and killed a bald eagle in Centre Wellington has pleaded guilty to hunting protected wildlife.

Following Wednesday’s guilty plea, the man was fined $2,500 and handed a one-year suspension of his hunting licence.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the man was hunting illegally in the Wilson’s Flats area along the Grand River, between Inverhaugh and West Montrose last October.

Grand River Conservation Authority investigators determined that the man had shot and killed a bald eagle while hunting in the area.

Shooting bald eagles or other specially protected birds is illegal in Ontario.
