People from all over Ontario descended on Alma Saturday for the 33rd annual Plunger Toss.
“It grips you,” says the competition’s founder, Jim Debock. “People come year and year out.”
He notes the bizarre, horseshoes-style game was originally invented as a way to beat the winter blues.
Now, it’s a beloved community tradition.
“The whole idea is to get your name on the cup and carry that with you,” says Debock.
To win the top prize, each team throws plungers into a line of toilets, about 30 feet away.
Returning champion Kenny Barnes says he was so determined to win this year’s competition, he worked extra hard on perfecting his technique.
“Nice and consistent, just slide it along,” he says, pun perhaps intended. “Other people, they go for the lob throw to get it in the toilet. But I’m not that kind of person.”
All of the money raised at Saturday’s events will be donated to local youth programs.
