Kitchener is following the lead of Waterloo and Cambridge in lowering speed limits in front of many of its schools.

City councillors voted Monday night to create speed limits of 40 km/h in front of 38 elementary schools.

Speed limits will remain as they are in front of schools located on the city’s major arterial roads.

Changing the speed limits is expected to cost the city $38,000.

City officials say all necessary signs will be installed by September.
