Seven businesses in Kitchener have been fined for opening their doors on statutory holidays.
Under Ontario’s Retail Business Holiday Act, only certain pharmacies, bookstores, flower shops, gas stations and tourism businesses are allowed to open their doors on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and seven other holidays.
Friday, Waterloo Regional Police allegedly found the B & T Foods supermarket open in contravention of that law.
Police say the grocery store again opened up on Sunday – along with New City Supermarket and five massage parlours.
All seven businesses must pay penalties of between $500 and $5,000.
