An armed robbery of a Brantford grocery store ended with a cashier being taken to hospital.

Brantford Police say a man walked into Calbeck Food Market on Murray Street around 5:30 p.m. Sunday and attempted to purchase a chocolate bar.

The man then allegedly asked the cashier if he had ever been robbed, pulled out a kitchen knife and demanded money.

According to police, the man then grabbed a metal stick, hit the cashier repeatedly on the head, grabbed cash from the cash register and left the store.

The clerk was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police describe the robber as an aboriginal man in his 30s, 5’7” to 5’10” tall and weighing 200 pounds.

They say he has dark hair and was wearing a dark coat, dark pants and white shoes, and was last seen heading in the direction of Mary Street on foot.
