Some southwestern Ontario residents continue to have no power following last week's ice storm.

According to Hydro One’s website, a number of homes remain without power Tuesday morning. Power outages continue to be indicated near Milverton, Listowel, Palmerston and east of Goderich.

As of Monday night, the Township of North Perth, which includes Listowel, Teviotdale, Atwood and a number of smaller communities, remained under a state of emergency three days after Friday’s ice storm.

Power has slowly been restored to many properties in North Perth, but thousands more remained without electricity.

At Birchlawn Farm near Atwood, owner Steve Terpstra says feeding more than 5,000 pigs and 1,000 cows with generators running non-stop has been a challenge.

“It’s been a hectic few days,” he says.

Power was restored at Birchlawn late Monday afternoon, but as of 6 p.m. Monday, Hydro One said there were 191 outages across the province, affecting 6,175 customers.

Hydro One officials tell CTV about 2,800 of those customers were in the Listowel area.

Once the power’s back on, attention will turn to cleaning up the broken trees and other debris that litter the road.

For that, the township says it will bring in specially trained outside crews.

“We do not have the resources to simply clear every road, so we felt it necessary to call in two forestry crews to assist us,” says Mayor Julie Behrns.
