The Code Orange procedure in effect at St. Mary's General Hospital since a water main break was discovered Sunday morning has come to an end.
As a result, ambulances are once again transporting patients to St. Mary's. Prior to the Monday afternoon lifting of the Code Orange, all ambulance patients had been taken to other local hospitals instead.
Other restrictions remain in effect at the hospital, including visitor restrictions. Officials recommend calling 519-744-3311 and asking to be directed to a specific patient.
Monday morning, hospital officials said all surgical procedures had been cancelled for Monday and Tuesday, and all affected patients notified directly.
A decision on whether surgeries resume Wednesday will be made Tuesday.
The water main break occurred early Sunday morning under the staff parking lot, causing significant damage to the hospital’s basement level.
Among the items damaged was sterilization equipment, which is what prompted the surgery cancellations.
