A woman who was injured in a fire at a Cambridge apartment building has died from her injuries.

Firefighters were called around 5 p.m. Tuesday to put out the kitchen fire at a Margaret Street apartment complex.

The woman’s family said she had been cooking and they believed a tea towel, or her clothing, may have caught fire.

One of the victim’s neighbours tried to help her.

“I heard a lady screaming,” John Cobban told CTV News. “I ran into there and I saw her. She was on the ground. She was burning and I got water, put it in pots and put it on her and got the fire out. I helped her, pulled her away from the fire location and then I put out the fire on the stove.”

The victim’s family said they’re grateful for Cobban’s efforts.

More to come.
