As hundreds of Wellington County residents lined up Friday at a hepatitis A immunization clinic, one question made its way through the crowd: Is Marj’s Village Kitchen closing?
Marj’s, the popular family restaurant and bakery in Alma, is the reason the clinic was being held.
Public health officials say anyone who ate there between Jan. 2 and Jan. 20 is at risk of contracting hepatitis A, which an employee was unknowingly infected with.
Thursday, the restaurant was open – and able to pass a three-hour health inspection.
Friday, the restaurant was closed, with no explanation as to why.
Several people told CTV News they had heard that the restaurant won’t reopen.
Many of the 45 or so people who work at Marj’s spent the day in shock at the rumours of an abrupt closure, according to one former employee.
Calls to the owner of Marj’s Village Kitchen were not returned before this story was published.
