Police dogs, a tactical unit and a helicopter remained on-scene at a Bruce County farm Thursday evening as officers searched for a man they had been seeking for more than 24 hours.
The police action began around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at a separate farm property on Belfast Road near Kintail, in Huron County. OPP said they were concerned about a 29-year-old man, who was on probation and believed to be illegally in possession of a gun.
“In light of some of the comments (he) directed toward police, officers set up containment in the area,” Const. Jamie Stanley told CTV News.
That property remained under police containment Thursday morning. Containment was also set up around the Bruce County property, located near Concession 6 south of Ripley.
Activity on Belfast Road wrapped up later in the day Thursday, as police said an “extensive search” of the site failed to turn up any signs of the man.
Police say the man in question is about six feet tall and 200 pounds, with a medium build and black hair, and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a brown sweatshirt.
Anyone who sees the man or any other suspicious activity in the area is being asked to call 911 and not start a confrontation.
People in the Ripley area were also being asked to keep all their buildings and vehicles locked.
