A Guelph constable was honoured by the Ontario government Sunday at a tribute to first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Const. Jennifer Kovach died in March when her cruiser crossed the centre line on Imperial Road and crashed into a city bus.
She was responding to a call for backup from another officer.
At a special ceremony on Sunday, Premier Kathleen Wynne presented plaques to Kovach's family, as well as the families of thirteen other first responders.
In an email to CTV News, Chief Bryan Larkin wrote: “The Guelph Police Service was immensely proud to join the premier and emergency services from across the province as we collectively paid tribute to our fallen members while honouring their families. We will always remember Constable Kovach for her commitment to making a difference and her service to the citizens of Guelph.”
In addition to Kovach, the province paid tribute to seven firefighters, four paramedics and an air ambulance pilot.
Their deaths date back as far as 2007.
According to a release, this is the first year paramedics were honoured at the ceremony.
