The City of Waterloo has agreed to allow GrandLinq to work round the clock in uptown from now until the end of the year.

Council granted a noise exemption in an effort to keep the completion of the LRT on track.

Even though GranLinq hasn’t said by how much, LRT work was delayed due to the corduroy road discovery.

It is hoped that the noise exemption will allow crews to maximize work so that full accessibility to uptown businesses will happen by Christmas.

Uptown Waterloo businesses were in favour of the exemption, as they want nothing more than for construction to speed up.

“I think it's important for the taxpayers of Waterloo and the businesses to get the work done as soon as possible,”said Michael Copland  from Ontario Seed Home Hardware.

His statement was echoed by other business owners including Mandy Brouse  from WordsWorth Books.

“Let's just get the work done, let's get it done fast, let's use all the hours of the day,” she said.

Even though the exemption has been granted, Waterloo staff stressed that the work won’t happen all the time.

Construction taking place south of William Street will be limited.

People in the areas where work will be happen at night will be notified.

Two smaller projects already have the green light for round the clock work; the King and Northfield area along the Waterloo Spur Line also has a noise exemption.
