A 23-year-old man faces multiple charges in connection with an incident at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Waterloo Regional Police say a man was seen “engaging in an indecent act” at the school’s Waterloo campus early Tuesday morning, then following two female employees of the school in a manner police call “suspicious and concerning.”
Bryan Thorpe was arrested Thursday, and now faces charges of harassment and committing an indecent act.
Police say Thorpe is registered as a student at the school.
Students on campus Friday, who had been notified of the incident via an email from WLU administrators, said they felt safer knowing of the arrest.
“It just puts a bad face on all the students in the area,” said Hannah Weir.
Jordan Oudyk, a business student, said it was the first time he’d heard of something like that happening at Laurier.
“I thought this campus was really safe,” he said.
The school is assisting police in the investigation with a focus on ensuring safety for everyone on campus, school spokesperson Lori-Chalmers Morrison said.
