Jewelry store robbery at Conestoga Mall in Waterloo

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating an armed robbery at a jewelry store inside Conestoga Mall.

Police received multiple calls about the incident around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers aren’t sure how many people were involved.

“What we can say is that multiple suspects entered the jewelry store,” said Const. Chris Iden. “It’s believed that a weapon… a hammer, and we believe bear spray, were used in the process.”

Video, shared with CTV News, showed several people taking merchandise at Raffi Jewellers.

There were no injuries reported.

“We’re unaware at this time of what merchandise may have been taken, but the suspects did flee before police arrival,” Iden added.

Police said there have been no arrests and they're working to track down the suspects.

Signs have been put up at mall entrances saying that the building is closed until further notice.

Police will remain on scene through the evening and are warning the public that there may be heavy traffic as a result.

An updated is expected from police later Wednesday night.
