After a 40-year career that took him from Kitchener to the national stage, Jeff Hutcheson is ready for retirement.

“It’s time for me to go,” he said during his announcement on Canada AM Friday morning.

Hutcheson, who grew up in Cambridge, began his television career at CKCO (now CTV Kitchener) back in 1976, and quickly became a popular part of the sports department.

Local viewers may also remember him for his involvement with Bowling for Dollars and Blue Jays Banter.

In 1992, Hutcheson also began working part-time at Canada AM. In 1998, he became a permanent part of that team.

As Canada AM's weather anchor he’s broadcast from nearly 400 locations across Canada and around the world.

“I’ve done things you can’t even imagine,” he said to his Canada AM co-hosts Beverly Thomson and Marci Ien after announcing his retirement.

Hutcheson says his last day on the show will be June 17.

But first he’s planning one last tour, beginning in Niagara-on-the-Lake on May 11.
