Seeking a second straight term in office -- and fifth total -- Brantford Mayor Chris Friel was up against several challengers with some degree of name recognition.
Those challengers included incumbent councillors Jan Vanderstelt and Dave Wrobel, former councillor Mark Littell, and former provincial candidate Michael St. Amant.
But with all polls reporting, Friel was able to land 36.0 per cent of the vote – compared to Vanderstelt, his closest competitor, at 18.6 per cent.
“Generally people were saying the same thing, which is ‘I’m good. Things are good. We see the progress,’” Friel said.
Wrobel was in third with 16.7 per cent, and St. Amant fourth with 15.3 per cent support.
Friel has been mayor of Brantford since 2010, and was previously mayor between 1994 and 2003.
