Impaired, weapons charges laid following collision outside Guelph Police station

A Guelph man is facing impaired driving and weapons charged following a collision Friday evening right outside the Guelph Police station.

Police say an officer was parked near Wyndham Street South and Fountain Street around 7:35 p.m. when he heard a collision and saw a vehicle skid off the road, striking a stop sign.

Police say the officer spoke to the driver and detected an odour of alcohol.

“After failing a roadside breath test, the man was taken inside, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system,” police said in a media release. “During a search incident to arres ,a spring-assisted knife was located in the man’s pocket.”

A 27-year-old man is charged with impaired driving, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon, careless driving, and novice driver having alcohol in his system.

HI license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was seized for seven days.
