The number of self-reported cases of gastroenteritis at the University of Guelph has increased to 234, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health confirmed on Monday.

Gastroenteritis was first reported at the university on Jan. 6. Two days later, an estimated 60 students were sick and by Friday, it had climbed to 150 cases.

“Unless there are significant changes in the situation, we won’t be actively pushing out case updates,” they explained in Monday’s email to CTV News.

Vomiting and diarrhea are the most common symptoms of gastroenteritis and can last anywhere from 12 to 24 hours.

Public health has not positively identified the virus, but it is believed to be Norovirus.

Public health said they were working with the University of Guelph to mitigate the virus’ spread on campus.
