The Guelph Police Service and Guelph Fire Department are investigating a fire that reportedly caused significant smoke damage to a Waterloo Avenue apartment on Saturday.

Just before 7 p.m., police were asked to assist the fire department at an apartment near Waterloo Avenue and Beechwood Avenue. A mattress fire had caused “significant smoke damage” to the unit, according to police.

A neighbouring unit was temporarily evacuated while it was ventilated and underwent minor repairs.

No one was hurt.

The fire is considered to be suspicious and remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Kevin Ketteringham at 519-824-1212, ext. 7513 or email kketteringham@guelphpolice.ca.
